This innovative study examines four inter-related ethical issues essential to adolescent HIV research: recruitment and enrollment; HIV testing and disclosure of results; consent, assent and parental permission; and compensation and inducements. Recommendations developed from the study data are disseminated to guide researchers, ethics committees and other stakeholders in the ethical conduct of adolescent HIV research.
